This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.
Psalm 118: 24 (ESV)
Lately, the Lord has been speaking to me about being present at every moment. He brought two women to my mind. The first one worked hard her entire life. She and her husband hardly ever took vacations, saved all they could, and worked extremely hard on their 401k to have what they called a “descent retirement”. Once retired they would move out of state, buy the house of their dreams, and travel. Sadly, she died two weeks after her retirement day.
The other woman the Lord brought to my mind is still alive but lives in the past. Her favorite words are “the good old times”. She is unhappy with her present circumstances, and with the direction, her life is taking. She always seems to be reminiscing about her good old times. No matter how much God blesses her now, to her the past always seems better than the present.
I hope my friends that you know that neither one of those lives reflect God’s plans for us. It is wise to save and make plans for our retirements, but not to the point that will stop us from enjoying our present times. It is also amazing to remember how God blessed us in the past, but God does not want us to live in the past.
Your Heavenly Father wants you to live your life in the present. He wants us all to be present, wherever we are no matter in which season of life we are. Even in difficult times, there are lessons to learn. Learn your lessons in every season of your life and move on to the next adventure God has for you.
Please do not let your life go by without living every minute of it. Be amused by your crazy coworkers today. Make sure you enjoy that expensive latte you stood in line to get. Spend time with your kids while you have them with you. Soon they will be gone and all you will have will be memories. Take that trip you want to take now when you can still walk. Do not wait until you are too old and no longer able to enjoy the food or endure the trip. Be present. Enjoy each day the Lord makes for you.
