A Good Treasure

He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord.

Proverbs 18:22 NIV

Call me old-fashioned, but I think that in a romantic relationship, men should pursue women. I know that now women ask men out, and most couples do not believe in marriage, but that is not how Bible-believing Christians should do things. Adam did not accidentally bump into Eve. God introduced Adam to his wife. God's Word tells us that husbands find their wives, which tells us that men should look for them, and no one spends much time or effort looking for something ordinary.

After weeks of therapy with a couple with serious marital problems, I asked them who sought out whom in their relationship. The wife replied, "I chased him," which did not surprise me. She was the only one trying to solve their relationship problems. He seemed unconcerned about their issues. It was as if he did not care one way or the other if they stayed together or not. He was not willing to do much to fight for his marriage, for he did not value what he had.

The Bible describes a wife as a good thing. A good wife brings God's favor to her husband. You, my sister, are a treasure. You are someone worth seeking out. If you act like something ordinary, people will treat you as such. I am not saying you should play emotional games or hard-to-get. I am saying that instead of trying to catch a man, you should pray and trust that God will lead someone to find you.

Men of God, the wrong woman, can make your life miserable. Proverbs 25:24 tells us that living in a corner on the roof is better than inside the house with a quarreling wife. Let God guide you to the person He has for you. Nothing great is easy to find or get.

People of God, the person God has for you (and He does have one), will value you and be valuable. That person will be worthy of the time you invested praying and waiting for them. The person created to be your partner will make you stronger and bring you joy. In God's time, He will lead you to each other. Wait on the Lord for such a mate!
