Be Still and Know

“Then she said, “Sit still, my daughter, until you know how the matter will turn out; for the man will not rest until he has concluded the matter this day.”

Ruth 3:18 (NKJV)

Someone I know was recently waiting to hear from a prospective employer. She had gone through a long process of filling out paperwork and had gone through what seemed to her a million interviews. When she finally got to the end of the process, she was told she would hear whether she got the position or not within a week.

She called me after two days needing to hear an encouraging word. She had the peace of God and knew she had the job but waiting for that phone call was killing her. I understand that feeling. I hate to wait, especially when I am in the place between amen, I believe I have it, and I got it.

Ruth from the Bible understood that feeling also. After losing her husband, leaving her country, and working hard to support herself and her mother-in-law, she finally had the possibility of her life turning around. She had met a good man who made her a promise of redemption. When she told that to her mother-in-law, she said to her, “Sit still my daughter until you know how the matter will turn out”.

You see it was easy for Nahomi the mother-in-law to tell Ruth that. After all, she knew what kind of man had made the promise to Ruth, and she knew the customs of her people. Ruth on the other hand did not know any of that, but she knew she could trust Nahomi. My dear friend, you might be in the same boat as Ruth. You might be waiting on God to do what He said He would do.

I got good news for you. God has never broken a promise. He might make you wait a little for your answer, but your answer will come. Do not give room to any thought that might make you worry, doubt God, or move ahead of God’s timing. Hear the voice of the Holy Spirit today telling you “Sit still my son/daughter until you know how God will turn your life around”.

Ruth married Boaz. My friend got her job, and you will get what God has promised you, just sit still.
