If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin AND WILL HEAL THEIR LAND.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)
After Salomon finished celebrating the dedication of the Temple he built, God visited him and had an interesting conversation with him. God told Salomon When I close the heavens on my people, if they pray, seek my face, and repent from their wicked ways, I will hear and forgive them and heal their land.
Did you notice that God did not tell Salomon “if” I close the heavens, but “when” I close the heavens? How sad is that? How sad is it that God knew Israel would go astray and would force Him to close the heavens over them in other for them to return to Him? God is omniscient and knows everything, but unfortunately, He did not need to be omniscient to know that Israel would fall from grace. They did that all the time.
God promised Salomon that day that every time His people would fall from His grace if they asked Him to, He would forgive them and fix what their sin broke or messed up. It is essential to recognize that God made this promise to Salomon not for the world but for His people. Since the blood of Christ makes the church God’s people, this promise belongs to us too.
Many people think that if the people of God pray, repent and turn back, God will heal their countries, but that is not what the Bible tells us. The Bible tells us that WHEN we, the People of God, live under closed heaven due to our sins, IF we pray, repent, and turn back, God will heal our land (household, relatives, and possessions).
If you read the previous verses, you will see that the promise of 2 Chronicles 7:14 is not for the church in general. It is for the people of God who are living the consequences of their sins. My friend, if you live in obedience, there is no need for you to ask God to heal your land. Your land (household and possessions) is blessed. Do not waste more time if the heavens over your land are closed. Pray, seek God’s face, and turn from your wicked ways. In other words, REPENT!
