Face to Face

fhuezo

If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray AND SEEK MY FACE and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 (NIV)

I have heard many sermons and articles about seeking God's face, not His hands. I agree with all of them. It is always good to remind ourselves that God is more than just our provider, but I think that when God tells us to seek His face, He means more than "do not just ask me to bless you." I believe that God desires closeness with His people.

When the Children of Israel got to Mount Sinai, they told Moses, we will do everything God says through you, but we will stay at the bottom of the mountain. You go and talk to Him for us. You see, they did not want to get closer to God. They wanted God as a benefactor but did not want a relationship with Him.

The only way to get to know people truly is by being near them. There is a great level of intimacy when you are face-to-face with someone. I believe that when God tells us, "seek my face," He tells us, "get to know me." Get to know the Father who loves you. Get to know the Brother who died for you and the sweet Spirit who walks with you daily.

Friends, some churchgoers know the God their pastor describes to them on Sundays but do not know their God. We cannot be like them! Nor can we be like the Children of Israel who saw the dark cloud over Mount Sinai, felt the mountain tremble with the presence of God, and still did not want to get closer to God.

This week I want to inspire you to get closer to the Lord. He promises that if we draw closer to Him, He will draw closer to us (James 4:8). Let us make up our minds that in 2023 we will get to know our God like never before. Let us be like Moses and tell Him I want to see you face to face. If God showed Moses His back, I cannot wait to discover what He will reveal to us.
