Putting Faith to Work

fhuezo

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9 (NIV)

As a Christian, I have heard many definitions of faith, but I like the one Pastor Charles Neiman taught me many years ago. This great Man of God from El Paso, Texas, taught me the most practical definition of faith I have heard. He said, “Faith is believing in your heart, what you confess with your mouth.”

Many people think faith is just our ability to believe, but that is just half of what faith is all about. God created everything we know by speaking. He gave man the same creative ability when He breathed life into Adam. The Book of Proverbs tells us that the tongue can create life and death, which means we release creative power every time we speak.

If we believe what we say, then whatever we say comes to life. That is why Jesus told us that if we have faith and say to a mountain move, it will move. To believe a mountain can move is not enough for it to move, and telling a mountain to move without believing it will is not enough. Faith only works when we do both.

Some of us keep the promises of God in our hearts and never confess them aloud, and of course, such promises do not come to pass. Others confess things they do not believe, and nothing happens. Unfortunately, because this principle works whether what we believe is positive or negative, many of us speak about negative things we believe and, without even realizing it, bring those things into our lives.

Therefore, my dear friends, we must be careful about what we believe and confess. Let us decide today to change the way operate in faith. From now on, do all you can to confess only positive things about yourself. Confess those things aloud, believe them in your heart, and watch your life change for good once and for all.
